• The idea for this book came to me while I was looking out the window at work. I heard the word "nanotechnology" and started asking questions. I had just reached my cubicle when I heard the name "Cai" and knew that was my heroine. I also had a sense she was part Asian and when I looked up Cai, I discovered it was a Vietnamese name.
  

• Jake has been on his own since he was 18.
  

• Cai grew up very sheltered by her mom and dad. She started to become more assertive when there was no one willing to investigate their disappearance. It was up to her to hound the authorities and search for them, so she did what she had to do.
  

• Jake grew up in a cult and received lessons in knives, how to forge them, how to care for the weapon, and how to fight with a blade, from the time he was six.
  

• Cai originally wanted to be a doctor, but dissecting made her ill, so she switched to computers and other systems. This was her first love, but she wanted to work with her parents. Both are doctors doing cutting edge research in bionanotechnology.

• There really is a belief that Quantum Brain Nanotechnology will be part of our future, but it is a lot more complex and involved than what I portrayed in the book.
